Architect Kazuo Shinohara was an important figure in Japanese architecture. Originally a mathematician, Shinohara achieved cult-like status with his series of beautiful, purist houses designed in the mid-1950s to the 1980sHe was a key figure who outwardly rejected Western influences yet his work is scattered on almost every wing of modern Japanese architecture.  He was an inspiring theorist, an influential designer, and became a well respected professor in his later years.
