Storefronts and visual merchandising are important to any retail experience. The holidays provide retailers with a unique opportunity each year to express season’s greetings in their own unique way. Creative teams often spend months crafting elaborate stories, subtle classic details and sometimes even scenes that appear to be from another world. If there’s a perfect season to window shop, it’s the holiday season. To get us all into the holiday spirit, we’re sharing some of our favourite holiday window displays in Vancouver this year. We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season!

Cartier

Cartier is known for their miniature holiday window scenes and details. This year was no disappointment. We particularly enjoyed their incorporation of a clocktower among a cityscape, which provides a nod back to one of their most famous offerings: watches.

FAO Schwartz

Some of our favourite windows at The Bay were those inhabited by the playland of FAO Schwartz. Oversized props take us back to Christmas mornings when the world seemed so much bigger.

Filson

The outdoor goods brand fits right into the coziness of the holidays with their plaid patterns and popular colours of evergreen and red. We appreciate that their Christmas display flows into the store environment with a full-size tree and ornaments hanging from the ceiling.

Giovane Café

Giovane Café + Eatery + Market showcased one of their strengths in this unique display. Their Executive Pastry Chef Jeffry Kahle handcrafted figures entirely out of chocolate to create the sweetest winter wonderland.

Harbour Centre

At the Harbour Centre, we were surprised to see a playful winter landscape that made great use of the ground floor lobby. Cardboard figures are visible through frosty openings in the windows, encouraging passersby to come inside.

Holt Renfrew

Holt Renfrew brought the glam to holiday shopping with an assortment of gold, glitter and mirrors. Cravable luxury goods sit atop shopping carts and baskets filled with red boxes, making them the focus even among all the sparkle.

John Fluevog

In true John Fluevog fashion, the Gastown retailer merged classic and contemporary in a way that made us look twice. Festive red patterns and twinkly lights flow around cheeky decals that read, “Generic Holiday Message” while an overarching message reminds us to be thankful.

Litchfield

The subtle holiday window at Litchfield catches our eye each year. Above winter greens, a festive wreath sits behind gold letters. The combination feels timeless and well-suited for this PNW location.

Secret Location

At Secret Location, we learned that it’s possible to have a stylish Christmas even from outer space. Colourful Christmas trees appear to float by shoes, handbags and apparel, giving us a glimpse into what zero-gravity holidays might be like in the future.
